
P. Kamehaʻililani Waiau
P. Kamehaʻililani Waiau is the first born daughter of Al and Aileen Waiau, a 5th generation kupa ʻāina of Papakōlea Homestead in Kewalo, Kona, Oʻahu. She is a seasoned practitioner of culture based education & an advocate for aloha. Kameha‘ililani has been an educator for over 25 years, devoting her career to Hawaiian Medium education. She has worked in all levels of education, from PreK at the ʻAha Pūnana Leo to community evening classes for adults as well as Post-Secondary as an instructor at Ka Haka ʻUla o Keʻelikōlani, University of Hawaiʻi at Hiloʻs Kahuawaiola Program. She serves as the Hope Kahu/Principal of Ke Kula o Samuel M Kamakau, LPCS a pre-k-12 mauli ola school in Ha‘ikū, O‘ahu-a-Lua. Waiau is currently a doctoral candidate in the EdD. Educational Leadership Program at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, College of Ed. She is also a steadfast supporter of public education. Kameha‘ililani is an activist-actor-artist & founding member of Ka Hālau Hanakeaka, (a Hawaiian theater troupe) starring in their first production; Kaluaiko‘olau in 1996 under the direction of Haili‘ōpua Baker. She is often recognized by keiki as “‘Anakē” on ‘Āina ‘Ōiwi TV, a Hawaiian children’s edutainment show produced by the ‘Aha Pūnana Leo. She has also performed in productions at Kumu Kahua Theater and various voice-over work including Hawaiian language audio books and made for TV movies & documentaries. Waiau also sits on various governing boards whose missions include Hawaiian language revitalization, Hawaiian education, compassion advocacy for prisoner families and aloha ‘āina. In her spare time she enjoys reading, genealogy work, tending to her ‘ulu tree and launa ‘ohana.
